Gaza: A Slow Death

Israel continues to punish the Palestinians imprisoned in the Gaza Strip for electing Hamas to power in democratically held elections. Israel is blocking food and fuel supplies to 1.5 million Palestinians.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees said today it would have to suspend food distribution in Gaza after Israel blocked humanitarian supplies from entering the strip.

Israel also prevented delivery of industrial diesel, which is paid for by the EU and used for the strip's sole power plant. Palestinian officials said the plant, which has already shut down once this week, would have to close by last night if no more fuel was delivered.

Meanwhile President-Derelict Obama has remained mute on the genocide occurring before the eyes of the world, a world that for the most part also remains silent as Palestinians suffer and die amidst horrific living conditions. Indeed, all Obama has done is to give his undying support for Israel’s right to “protect” itself as was seen during his speech before AIPAC.

I have long understood Israel's quest for peace and need for security. But never more so than during my travels there two years ago. Flying in an [Israeli Defense Forces] helicopter, I saw a narrow and beautiful strip of land nestled against the Mediterranean. On the ground, I met a family who saw their house destroyed by a Katyusha rocket. I spoke to Israeli troops who faced daily threats as they maintained security near the blue line. I talked to people who wanted nothing more simple, or elusive, than a secure future for their children.

I have been proud to be a part of a strong, bipartisan consensus that has stood by Israel in the face of all threats. That is a commitment that both John McCain and I share, because support for Israel in this country goes beyond party. But part of our commitment must be speaking up when Israel's security is at risk, and I don't think any of us can be satisfied that America's recent foreign policy has made Israel more secure.

Obama’s banality reflects his total lack of concern for the Palestinians which is to be expected since the Palestinians have no power as in no money, no influence, and no friends because of these conditions. In fact, this is not just a sad statement on Obama’s “humanitarian” nature but the nature of the world we inhabit as a whole. That the world stands by while the Palestinians slowly starve to death is a sickening reminder that humanity has not progressed one bit despite whatever delusions we may entertain about ourselves. Obama’s upside-down claims that Israel is fighting for its life due to the evil machinations of the Palestinians is so backwards and untruthful that it is shocking belying the fact that Israel is and has been pummeling the Palestinians with the one end in mind, that of eliminating them from the face of the earth.

Obama continues with his fear-mongering and more lies concerning the “dire” threat of Iran, a nation that has been at peace for the last 100 years with the exception of the war with Iraq back in the day when Saddam was our friend and we provided him with weapons to wage war against Iran. Indeed, when you compare our history with that of Iran for the last 100 years with our legacy of neo-colonialism beginning in the Philippines and now raging on in three fronts, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Iraq – not to mention our attacks inside the borders of Pakistan -- it seems quite clear that we are the barbaric and warlike threat against world peace not the Iranians however much we may deplore their government.

There is no greater threat to Israel — or to the peace and stability of the region — than Iran. Now this audience is made up of both Republicans and Democrats, and the enemies of Israel should have no doubt that, regardless of party, Americans stand shoulder to shoulder in our commitment to Israel's security. So while I don't want to strike too partisan a note here today, I do want to address some willful mischaracterizations of my positions.

The Iranian regime supports violent extremists and challenges us across the region. It pursues a nuclear capability that could spark a dangerous arms race and raise the prospect of a transfer of nuclear know-how to terrorists. Its president denies the Holocaust and threatens to wipe Israel off the map. The danger from Iran is grave, it is real, and my goal will be to eliminate this threat.

The above excerpt form Obama’s AIPAC speech is pure pap. As I have said in a previous post every single intelligence agency in the U.S. has said that it is unlikely that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons and even if they were and somehow managed to build one or two ten years from now what of it? Does anyone seriously believe that the Iranians would be suicidal enough to attack Israel who does posses nuclear weapons, perhaps as many as 300 of them? Such asinine claims hardly bear even a passing scrutiny. The reality is that the two greatest threats to peace and stability in the Middle East are the U.S. and Israel.

Recently Sonja Karkar wrote concerning the Israeli blockade…

This should give everyone pause to revisit our noble declarations of independence and human rights, ethics, morality, religious beliefs, civil liberties and the rule of law. Are they just for show or do they really mean something? Are they intended only for some people or for all people?

A very good question and one that needs no answer as it is painfully obvious that hypocrisy still rules our world with an iron hand, but read the whole essay if you can spare a few minutes.

The picture above is of Palestinian children killed by Israeli gunfire and no it is not pleasant, not pleasant at all. But this is the reality of Israel’s brutal and very one-sided war against the Palestinians, this is what Obama has pledged to support. Tis amazing that after thousands of years where national leaders have done the same thing, wage war for profit and self gain that suddenly, out of the blue, strides a new kind of national leader in the person of Obama, and now, change is upon us. Yeah, right.

Where did you get that picture? And why isn't on the front pages of every newspaper in the country?

Hi Mimi, I found the picture in a nightmare only I didn't wake up. Newspapers, bah, they thrive on war. Profit, profit, profit. They don't want us to lose our taste for war by publishing pictures of it. They would prefer we think it is noble.
