I like those RSA vids. That one's pretty good, though there are a few places where Ehrenreich misses opportunities to make more insightful observations.
Arum/Roksa -- Well that's really because the students aren't learning anything pre-college and therefore college (being a business and not really an intellectual nutrition venture) has to accommodate its "customer base." Trace collegiate education back to the boom after the GI Bill and you see a lot of colleges and universities churning out students with their diplomas, but not a lot of well-informed people among them.
The standards are still rigorous in small pockets of education, but overall the slackers, cheaters, and know-nothings dominate even among the summa cum laude crew.
I prefer referring to post-HS curricula as certification or credentialing, rather than education. It's more honest.
It's basically white-collar vo-tech.
Hi KFO, good to hear from you. I like the RSA vids too. I think I first encountered one at Pacific Views, of all places.
